Bonfire Night
Regrettably, ARC will not be holding a Bonfire Night this year. We usually run this event at the Rosinka beach but because of the construction work currently taking place at the site, it will not be possible to organise this event. Rosinka Management have kindly offered us a donation of $5000 to make up for the lost fund-raising opportunity.

ARC has taken the decision to ask the Moscow British Women's Club [BWC] to take over the organisation of Bonfire Night from now on and plans are underway to run a bigger event in 2008, possibly at the Moscow Country Club. Look out for further information on this website or the BWC website in the near future.

Project News

Metis - April 2006

The Metis Foundation had some terrible news in April. Three of the children who visit their centre were attacked by skinheads and their uncle who was with them was hospitilised. Racially motivated attacks such as these are on the rise in Russia and are a great cause for concern. Metis provides support for children of mixed race backgrounds who are often excluded and face racial abuse. The centre offers lessons in English, French and computer studies and a chance to make new friends. Events such as the recent 'Ethnic Gathering' allow children and their families to have fun and to celebrate their ethnic backgrounds.

Center for Curative Pedagoics Publishes Key Text on Autism in Russian

With the help of a donation from an ARC supporter who wanted to make a donation in memory of her mother, the Center for Curative Pedagoics (CCP) have continued to improve the amount of information available to professionals in Russia. The text ''Autism: An Introduction to Psychological Theory" by Francesca Happe was printed in Russian earlier this year after having been translated by one of CCP's psychologists. 'This book is an essential publication in this area and provides a valuable tool for our staff and for others in Russia working with children with autism' said Anna Bitova, the charity's director. Anyone who would like a copy of the book can purchase it from CCP.

Taganka Children's Fund starts “Moscow Family Support Project”

In September 2005 Taganka Children’s Fund (TCF) started the “Moscow Family Support Project” supported by the European Union-Russian Co-operation Programme (TACIS). Half of the matched funding for this project was generously donated by Action for Russia’s Children.

This project aims to provide support to the neediest, most vulnerable families and families in crisis situations by way of qualified social workers who make regular visits and phone calls. Families are encouraged to particiapte in the activities run by TCF such as after-school clubs and summer camps. The families can also receive legal and psychological support from TCF specialists. Children from these families will be provided with a wide range of opportunities for education, after-school activities, rehabilitation, cultural events and summer programmes. The basic needs of the families will also be met by weekly distributions of the humanitarian aid. TCF welcomes families that are in need of support. If you know of the families that are experiencing severe problems, please refer them to Taganka children’s fund. We’ll do our best to help them.
