Projects > The Centre for Curative Pedagogics
The Center for Curative Pedagogics (CCP) was set up in 1989 by a group of parents and specialists headed by a speech therapist from one of Moscow's largest hospitals. Each year CCP treats and teaches 1000 children with mental disabilities, brain damage and classified learning difficulties such as autism and Downs Syndrome.
Children follow individually tailored programmes supported by physiotherapists, teachers, speech therapists, psychologists, doctors, occupational therapists and many others. Where possible, the aim is to reintegrate the children into mainstream education. The support CCP offers to these children allows their parents to look after them at home rather than taking the advice of many doctors to put all children with disabilities in residential institutions. CCP has also become a centre of excellence for new educational techniques and they publish, translate and disseminate relevant medical publications otherwise unavailable in Russia.

For a number of years ARC has given grants to CCP to fund intensive therapy programmes for children with the most severe difficulties.
