Downside Up works to improve the quality of life for Russian children with Downs syndrome. Support for children and their families is provided by a system of direct, early intervention supplemented by help from education and social services. Guidance and advice from specialists and organisations beyond Russia is also available.

Downside Up works continuously to improve the care received by children with Downs syndrome by raising awareness of the condition. This involves providing training for professionals and organisations responsible for the care of children with Downs syndrome and other special needs.

Downside Up aims to prevent abandonment by providing parents and carers with the information they need to make an informed choice about caring for their child. In this way, each child has the best chance to be looked after in a well-informed and loving environment.

On 27th May 2006, the Downside Up Early Intervention centre celebrated its move into a large, new premises. Thanks to the generous support of corporate and private sponsors, hundreds of Downs syndrome children and their families are receiving help from specialised professionals such as speech and cognitive therapists and physiotherapists. The new building has a large gymnasium, an art studio and a big garden.

More recently, these grants have been made to enable the publication of key texts on Downs syndrome in Russian, produce a newsletter for parents called "Take a Step" and to pay for speech therapy software. ARC has also provided financial support for an immediate response team that visits hospitals in order to provide information and support for parents of new Downs syndrome babies.
